Daily Reminders

Resisting the Sin Nature / RENEWING THE MIND

Spiritual Nourishment helps fight the addiction

  • We need to
    • Talk with our families - tell them about our daily stresses, pain, etc!
    • Talk with our friends - We need a support network of people who care!
    • or write our brothers in the FIC group

Consider the choice of spiritual water we have in the following two verses
  • John 4:10
Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water."
    Jeremiah 2:13

"My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

- ALSO CONSIDER -

  • Isaiah 55:1-2
    1
"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
    2
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.

Stress comes in many forms and can blindside us.

  • Ever heard the acronym "HALT"
    • Hunger - or thirsty (SEE ABOVE) - Are we taking care of ourselves - proper nutrition?
      • We need a balanced diet, not fast food or chomping down snack foods
    • Anger - Many times hurt, anger that is not resolved can lead to acting out
      • Exercise plan that's consistent
      • Talking with others about our feelings (for many of us, this is something we don't do)
      • Writing out what is going on
      • Accountability with another human being
      • We need to deal with the hurt that is a result of anger.
      • Anger is not bad - it's how we deal with it!
    • Loneliness - Our addiction isolates us, we need to reach out to others and tell them what is going on in our lives, it involves risk.  The risk is worth it.
      • Write the FIC group
      • Pick up the phone and call a trusted friend
      • Go and make more friends - have people you can share your burdens with
      • TALK WITH YOUR FAMILY IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY!!!
      • Have you told your family you love them lately?
      • Have you told your family the underlying stress in your life?
    • Tiredness - This addiction is like a virus - it causes us to go into overdrive and to not take care of ourselves.
      • We need proper rest - a person who doesn't get more than 5 hours of sleep a night reduces their lifespan
      • We need to get exercise - This can help us deal with stress
      • Learn to prioritize the things you do in your life
      • Read and apply the principles in Steven Covey's book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People"

STRESS CAN OVERTAKE US IF WE DON'T MANAGE IT - THERE'S MUCH MORE THAN WHAT IS ABOVE

Are you going through some major life change?

Sharing a burden divides the weight with the one who listens
